The Renovated Deluxe Room at Marina Bay Sands

Marina Bay Sands is one of, if not the most, iconic landmarks in all of Singapore. The hotel, entertainment, and amenities in this area are where many tourists find themselves when they travel to the Lion City, and I was lucky enough to snag a room at the hotel early this year.

Our stay at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands hotel came with an unexpected twist. The room that we had booked was in Tower 3, which contains all of the lower-end Deluxe rooms (I only rooms I had ever been in!), but upon checking in, we were told that the the upper part of tower was under renovation and that it would be really loud. After over 20 minutes of waiting for the front desk to find us a room, we were offered an upgrade to a renovated room for a small fee. And once we stepped foot inside, we knew that MBS was not kidding around with the luxury.

Upon entering the room, the lights immediately flip on and the automatic curtains open up, revealing a view of Gardens by the Bay. We were placed on the 27th story of Tower 1, which unfortunately had a garden right outside the window blocking part of the view and replacing a potential balcony.

The room itself makes up for it though. We were blown away by the new golden marble aesthetic, which resembles the color of the MBS logo. This alone was quite an upgrade over the original Deluxe Room, which was more brown and definitely felt less luxurious. Items like the TV remote or coffee machine that could not have the inherent golden color were covered in a similar colored leather.

The amount of amenities greatly increased as well. The coffee and tea station was beautifully crafted, and the drink selection included both free and paid options.

Below that is a cabinet with a wide assortment of snacks and a fridge full of drinks for additional cost. To top it off, there is a cocktail station beside the TV that comes with a selection of 4 beverages and all the bartender tools needed to craft your own delicious cocktail. Again, for additional cost.

The biggest upgrade from the renovation is definitely the bathroom. The new layout has dual sinks separated by a floor-to-ceiling mirror.

The bathroom amenities have all updated to wood material, and they now provide Colgate mouthwash for each sink.

The bedroom itself is very nice as well. The bed still feels as comfortable and fluffy as ever. The television may or may not be bigger than last time, but it was still much larger than any hotel TV that I’d seen before.

The slippers are also much improved from the flimsy ones before, with fur soles and extra padding for greater comfort.

Of course, staying at Marina Bay Sands doesn’t only mean the room. The Infinity Pool is the hotel’s crowning jewel, so we went up before dinner to enjoy a swim and spa session. That was when we learned the rooms weren’t the only thing that improved. The poolside menu at their famous Infinity Pool has a few neat additions, including a beautifully crafted S$14 veggie roll. Charging double that price to add prawns is a bit absurd though.

After a few hours shopping at the Marina Bay Shoppes and stuffing our faces at Haidilao, we enjoyed a relaxing warm soak in the bathtub and made the best of our time in the room. Two bath bombs and a phone stand were provided to enhance the soak. We stayed up for most of the night watching shows on the big screen, crafting our own iced coffee, and lazed around all night.

The new bathtub was definitely the best part of the upgrade.

Lastly, we decided to complete this luxury experience by ordering a room-service American-style breakfast the following morning. It costed us S$52 for 2 drinks, a custom omelette, hash browns, baked beans, a choice of meat like sausage or ham, and a plate of assorted fresh fruit. I have never ordered room service before in my life, so while the price was definitely at a premium, it was worth it to me for the experience alone.
