The Capital One Venture X is an incredible gateway to the world of premium credit card travel perks and rewards. It offers a plethora of highly sought after benefits while being one of the the most affordable premium cards out there with its $395 annual fee.
From the moment this card fell into my hands, I have utilized many of its perks for enhanced travel experiences. To quickly summarize, the card offers airport lounge access with 3 different lounge collections, a sizable travel credit, bonus anniversary miles, outstanding benefits from their worldwide hotel collections, car rental benefits, TSA PreCheck or Global Entry rebate, travel price matching, and a handful of travel partners for “free” high-value flights.

Sign-Up Bonus
As of June 2024, the welcome offer for the Venture X is 75,000 Capital One Miles after spending $4000 in the first 3 months of card ownership. This is valued at a minimum of $750 when converted into cash or used to purchase travel in the Capital One Travel Portal. It can potentially be worth even more when transfer partners are utilized.
Capital One Venture X ® Credit Card
Annual Fee: $395
APR: 21.99 – 28.99%
Bonus Offer: 75,000 miles after $4000 spend within the first 3 months of account opening, an offer worth $750.
Why it’s good: Similar to the Venture Rewards, the Venture X can serve as a “catch-all” card in that it gets unlimited 2X Capital One miles for every purchase. For travel, users get 10X miles on hotels and rental cars, and 5X on flights, all when booked through the Capital One Travel Portal. Benefits include Priority Pass™ Select membership for access to their partner lounge network, a $300 travel credit, a 10,000 anniversary points bonus, a $100 credit for TSA PreCheck® or Global Entry, and complimentary Hertz President’s Circle® Status for guaranteed vehicle upgrades. All of this with the exceptional travel and shopping protections that come with a Visa Infinite credit card, and up to four free authorized user accounts.
Rewards Multipliers
The Venture X is considered a good “catch-all” card, meaning it gets a good rewards rate for miscellaneous purchases that do not fall into the usual earning categories. In this case, the card earns 2x Capital One Miles for every $1 spent, not matter the category. This is twice as much as nearly every other card when used for miscellaneous spend.
If you are keen on using the Capital One Travel Portal, there is a chance to earn even more rewards. Booking flights through the portal will grant 5x Capital One Miles per $1 spent, while hotels are car rentals offer 10x Capital One miles.
- 10X points on hotels and car rentals booked through Capital One Travel.
- 5X points on flights booked through Capital One Travel.
- 2X points on every purchase, regardless of category.
Travel Protections and Benefits
$300 Travel Credit
The card comes with a $300 travel credit that can be applied to hotel, flight, or travel experience bookings through the Capital One Travel Portal. This benefit is the best way to offset the annual fee, effectively bringing it down to $95. As long as you can spend $300 within a year then the annual fee should be worth it already. Even infrequent travelers could spend this on a flight or two to visit family each year while being able to reap the other travel benefits of the card.
Bonus Anniversary Miles
The second way that helps to reduce the annual fee down to zero is the miles bonus given out at each card anniversary month. The bonus is 10,000 Capital One Miles, which are worth at least $100 in value when cashing out or booking travel in the portal. With this, the annual fee drops to -$5, so Capital One is essentially paying you to hold this card as long as you include the $300 travel credit in your regular annual spend.
Airport Lounge Access
One of the most lucrative perks of the premium travel credit cards is the lounge access, which usually offers free food and drink to cardholders and allows them to save on the overpriced airport food.
The first membership program granted is Priority Pass, which boasts the largest collection of airport lounges in the world. While these may not be as luxurious or swanky as the business and first class lounges, it is a great way for common folk to enjoy free food and relax in a much more comfortable environment than the musty seats in front of the flight gate.
Priority Pass is considered to be worth a lot more when used overseas as opposed to the US because of the jump in lounge quality. This is especially true in Asia, where these lounges are not crowded at all and the free food is of decently good quality.
The Chase Sapphire Lounges also allow for one visit per year for any Priority Pass members, and the one in Hong Kong was probably the best lounge experience I have had so far.
Check out my review of that lounge here! → The Sapphire Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport
Secondly, the Priority Pass membership that comes with the Venture X will grant access to Plaza Premium lounges. These are a bit more upscale than your typical Priority Pass lounge, but they are much smaller in number of overall lounges. These should be your go-to if you manage to find them at your airport. One such lounge that I have been going to many times recently is the Blossom Lounge at Singapore’s Changi Airport in Terminal 4.
Lastly, we have Capital One’s very own collection of lounges. These are known to be very high-end and are a must-visit for travel enthusiasts transiting through Denver, Washington D.C., or Dallas. The network is still growing, but there will be more Capital One lounges coming so keep an eye out for the next location. It could be your hometown airport for all you know!
What makes this Priority Pass special is that Venture X cardholders may bring in as many guests as they’d like. Other cards will usually only allow up to 2 guests per membership account. This does not apply to Plaza Premium and Capital One lounges, though, which are still limited at 2 guests per member.
TSA PreCheck and Global Entry Reimbursement
The Venture X offers a $100 credit to those applying for a TSA PreCheck or Global Entry membership, which renews every four years. These programs will make your travel run much more smoothly by drastically shortening the wait times at security or immigration when arriving from an international location.
Primary Collision Damage Waiver Rental Car Insurance
One of the strongest travel protections on the Capital One Venture X is a that it offers primary CDW, or collision damage waiver, when you rent a car using this card. CDW covers costs of damages and towing if the vehicle is involved in an accident. In addition, the CDW being primary means it precedes other insurances that you may have, as opposed to secondary which would only provide coverage for any amount not covered by the driver’s own auto insurance. Not only do you not have to file a claim with your insurance, the coverage provided by primary CDW is more likely to cover the entire cost of the car damages.
Hertz President’s Circle
Another good car rental benefit that will soon depart from this card’s arsenal is President’s Circle status with Hertz, the highest status available in their program. This allows you to basically select a more premium vehicle from a special lot allocated only for President’s Circle members when booking for just a low to mid-range vehicle. Additionally, with this status, the rental rates are heavily discounted when booking.
I have also utilized the Hertz President’s Circle status when I rented a car in Los Angeles during one of my visits back. The rates when booking online were heavily discounted after entering my status, so I was able to get a luxury Genesis sedan for the price of a basic Toyota or Mazda sedan. I was not able to skip the line however, as it was my first time using the status and Hertz wanted to confirm my identity. The primary car rental coverage benefit also provided peace of mind.
Premier and Lifestyle Hotel Collection Benefits
Another common benefit among premium travel cards is the hotel collection, which comes with additional issuer-specific perks. My first redemption with Capital One Miles using the sign-up bonus was a Premier Collection hotel redemption in Bali, which got me a the afore mentioned room upgrade and other benefits as well. Read more about my hotel redemption here!
Price Matching
Capital One will help to price match any flight or hotel listing that you may find to be cheaper than the price found in the Capital One Travel Portal. The steps to do this are:
- Search for the cheaper flight or hotel listing.
- Search for the exact same listing on the Capital One Travel Portal.
- Purchase the flight or hotel in the Capital One Travel Portal.
- Call Capital One at ______ and request a price match.
- They will ask you to provide the listing with a cheaper price. Keep in mind these much be in USD currency and viewable from the agent’s computer.
- If approved, the price difference will be refunded back to you as travel credit for future use.
No foreign transaction fee
There are no foreign transaction fees for the Capital One Venture X, so it is a good card to use internationally to avoid paying extra on your trips.
Free Authorized Users
Capital One does not charge any fee for adding an authorized user to your Venture X account, and you can have up to four authorized users per account. Although authorized users do not get the travel credit, bonus miles, or TSA PreCheck/Global Entry reimbursement, they will still benefit from the travel protections and especially the airport lounge access, complete with unlimited guests for them.
Other essential benefits that you can utilize are the following:
- Trip Cancellation Protection
- Trip Interruption Coverage
- Trip Delay Protection
- Lost Luggage Coverage
- Travel Accident Insurance
- Purchase Protection
When planning your trips, be sure to take advantage of the excellent travel protections offered by the CApital One Venture X. From trip cancellation/interruption insurance to baggage delay coverage, these benefits can save you time, money, and stress in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
Redeeming Your Points
Cash
The easiest way to get value from your points is by simply exchanging them for cash, either as a bank account deposit or statement credit. Each point is worth 1 cent, so 10000 points would equal $100, for example. This is typical of traditional cash back credit cards, but this is always an option if you need the cash.
Capital One Travel Portal
Redeeming Miles in the travel portal may not be the best value due to the high Miles earning rates when using cash, but there are situations that may call for it. As with cash, each Mile in the travel portal will be valued at 1 cent per point.
Transfer Partners
Gaining outsized value is typically done by transferring credit card points, Miles in this case, to transfer partners. These are hotel brands and airlines that have a partnership with Capital One and allow for their Miles to be converted into the respective points currency. For airline partners, I have personally transferred points to Singapore Airlines and Air Canada Aeroplan, the latter being used to book a business class Singapore Airlines flight to South Korea by taking advantage of the Star Alliance partnership. Although I am using these particular airlines due to living abroad in Singapore at the time of this article, other programs will also offer outsized value, it is just up to you to personally research the deals that impact you.
- Aeromexico Club Premier
- Air Canada Aeroplan
- Air France -KLM Flying Blue
- British Airways Executive Club
- Emirates Skywards
- Etihad Guest
- EVA Air Infinity MileLands
- Finnair Plus
- Qantas Frequent Flyer
- Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
- TAP Portugal Miles&Go
- Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
- Virgin Red
- ALL Accor Live Limitless
- Choice Privileges
- Wyndham Rewards
