Marina Bay Sands: The Price of Luxury

Marina Bay Sands has become well known as an international icon of Singapore. Starting operations back in 2010, Marina Bay Sands and the accompanying Shoppes mall have attracted high flyers from all over the world for an experience worthy of the title luxury. With tons of other activities available around the area and incredible views anywhere you are, it is a must-see place for anyone traveling to the Lion City.

Our Experience

When I first arrived in Singapore, I knew I had to stay in MBS sooner or later. I ended up choosing sooner and booking 2 nights in the Garden View Deluxe Room, costing me US$779 per night in July 2022, which included a promotion for an incidental add-on for both nights, such as breakfast or lunch at RISE or Spago, a professional photoshoot, museum annual passes, or some others. There are reports of room prices without the additional experiences being as low as US$500.

Our room was located in Tower 3, where most of the deluxe rooms are. Although there is a check-in counter at Tower 3, we got our room keys from the main reception at Tower 1 for the more authentic experience.

My first impression of our Deluxe Room on the 34th floor of MBS Tower 3 was that it was bigger than I expected. I was thinking that it would be smaller because the Deluxe is the baseline standard room, and the website pictures did not do it justice.

The king size bed had the most comfortable sheets and pillows I’d ever felt, literally cloud-like. The television comes built in with AirPlay screen mirroring, which we utilized with our iPad to enjoy some Netflix. Bath robes and slippers are provided, and they can be worn out to the pool as well.

Other amenities included a mini fridge with complimentary soda and juices, a single-seater couch by the large balcony door, and a desk with more plugs that probably necessary.

The bathroom in the Deluxe contains a standard shower. I would have liked to book the Premier Room which comes with the bathtub, but it was not justifying the price increase at the time.

For the promotional add-ons, we chose the RISE breakfast both days. Unfortunately, the lounge experience at Spago was fully booked for our second day.

From our balcony, we had a sweeping view of Gardens By The Bay, which showcased the incredible fusion of nature and man that Singapore well-known for. Beyond there, you could see a large number of docked ships that illustrate how busy Singapore’s harbor truly is.

Room service was incredibly speedy as well. During our stay, we requested more soaps, slippers, and extra drinks; less than five minutes later they would be at the door with a tray of our items.

Garden View from room

The crowning jewel of Marina Bay Sands is the largest Infinity Pool in the world. It spans across all three towers at 142 meters in length, holding a whopping 1,438,456 liters of water.

The seats right above the water was what I found to be the most interesting part of the design. Singapore’s grand skyline and the backdrop of Marina Bay complimented the luxurious vibe of the pool. Pair that with some poolside cocktails and relaxing at 57 stories up will have never felt so good.

Incredible view from the Infinity Pool at the top of MBS

The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is probably the most luxurious mall in all of Singapore, featuring three long floors of luxury brands, high-end restaurants, and artistic displays.

If you’re a gambling type, the casino here is the largest in Singapore. If not, maybe the calm Sampan Rides ($13/pax) are more your jam. The unique architecture of the Art & Science Museum, Apple Store, and Louis Vuitton are recognizable structures all around Marina Bay and are definitely worth a visit, even without a purchase!

At 8 and 9PM each day, there is a free musical water show outside of the Shoppes that dazzles with a wide range of colors and beautifully executed water patterns. We watched it once at the main viewing area outside and other times from the Infinity Pool or the large window on our room floor.

Marquee

The main nightclub at MBS has the same name as the Marquee at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, so my expectations of it were pretty high going in. And it definitely did not disappoint.

A unique feature in this club is The Big Q, a full-sized ferris wheel sizing in at 40 meters in diameter. Despite its name, the queue is not actually very long so it is a must-go activity each time you visit Marquee.

From the ferris wheel, you can access the dance floor two levels down using Sunny Slide Up, the pair of twisting tube slides that eliminate any need of stairs.

Entry fees will range between S$20-100 depending on the headliner DJ, with females often getting a cheaper rate by S$10-30.

Our time at Marina Bay Sands hotel and the surrounding attractions was exciting to say the least. Although the room itself may be seen as a money sink, experiencing the glory of the Infinity Pool by itself is worth a nights’ stay. The rest of the amenities are just the cherry on top.
