My Story
The year was 2021. I had just moved to London from the United States for a Master’s degree course at Imperial College London. My promise to my parents that I would focus hard on my studies and not spend so much money was thrown out of the window within just one month, when I went to visit Paris, France AKA the city of romance. It soon became impossible to stop once the travel bug had set in.
With only one year in London, I decided to make the most out of it and travel to as many countries as I could while 1) still being able to keep up with school, and 2) traveling on a student budget. Between sitting in classes and submitting papers, I sipped economical sangrias in Spain, went Christmas market-hopping in Vienna Austria, met with Santa Claus in Rovaniemi Finland, skied down snowy slopes in Switzerland, gazed at the dazzling Northern Lights in Norway, did some island-hopping in the Greek Cyclades, went cross-country in Italy, visited K-drama worthy destinations across Korea, and ate our way through Bangkok, among many others.
After my degree program finished in mid-late 2022, I moved across the Pacific to the small modern country of Singapore and to start a new job. Of course, Singapore as a home base gave me a perfect opportunity to visit countries in Asia, akin to using London as our European home base. This blog is an accumulation of my travels during the COVID-19 era and beyond, my life experiences, and an attempt to show that anybody can travel if you adequately plan your life around that purpose. My future travel plans are still often plan-as-they-come, but I will do my best to keep everything updated here on this blog. Stay tuned!
About Kevin
Hi there! My name is Kevin Nguyen (yes, like the meme), and welcome to my travel and life blog! I am a Vietnamese-American from the famously mild-weather beach town of Santa Barbara, California. Adventure and travel have always been a part of who I am. Hiking the beautiful trails in the Santa Ynez mountains is a common activity among locals, and my favorite activities are often physical in nature. I have also been lucky to be able to roadtrip and fly to many destinations while growing up, both within the U.S. and internationally.
After saving up some money with my first engineering job following university, I moved to London to pursue a 1-year Master’s program in a field I wanted to move more towards. This is the time when I could really travel on my own terms, and it led to adventures that I did not believe I would experience in my lifetime.
After graduating with my Master’s degree, I am currently living as an expat in Singapore with a humble start to my career, as opposed to those who come here after already finding success in theirs. I want to use this blog as a way to detail my experiences living a near-local Singaporean life, comparisons between here, London, and the United States, and in addition detailing my escapades around the world. Hoping that I can provide a few insights and inspiration for everyone and anyone reading!
